24. The Predestination of Christ

1. What is predestinated is something set from eternity tobe done in time. Now, that God should become man was divinelyordained from eternity to take place in time. Hence, we say thatChrist was predestined or predestinated.

2. And therefore our human nature was predestinated to bejoined hypostatically to the divine Nature.

3. The predestinated sonship of Christ as man is theexemplar of our predestinated sonship by adoption.

4. And, indeed, the predestinated sonship of Christ as manis the cause of our predestinated sonship by adoption. Forscripture says (Eph. 1:5) that God "hath predestinated us intothe adoption of children through Jesus Christ."
